How Often Should Your Ducts Be Cleaned?
“How often should I be getting my ducts cleaned?” is one of the most common questions that we get asked. And the truth is … it depends.
I understand that’s not the answer you wanted to hear, so I’ll give you some more concrete numbers.
As a rule of thumb, you should get your ducts cleaned every 2 to 5 years.
Whilst this is a relatively wide range, every scenario is different. If you have pets, more than 3 people in your home, smokers in the house or don’t get a chance to clean your home too often, then you’re probably going to need to get your ducts cleaned more frequently (i.e. every 2-3 years).
If you live alone, don’t smoke and constantly clean your house, then you’ll probably only need to get your ducts cleaned every 5-6 years.
Over time, ductwork will develop a build-up of dirt that can include dust, bacteria and indoor pollutants such as mould spores. Older ductwork that has never been cleaned may also contain construction debris. When this is left, it can affect the efficiency of ventilation systems and have a negative impact on air quality in your home. In fact, cleaning your ducts is actually really important.
If you have elderly family members, young children or someone who suffers from allergies in your homes, then you also may need to consider getting your ducts cleaned a little more frequently.
